Jawbone Gets Nerdy With Icon HD

What’s the word concerning Jawbone’s Icon HD ($139.99; www.jawbone.com) headset? The word is The Nerd. What’s The Nerd? The Nerd is a wireless USB audio adapter that plugs into a Mac or PC’s USB port for use with the Icon HD to “talk or stream music from your computer and receive calls from your mobile phone at the same time” without having to tinker with Bluetooth settings. As for the Icon HD, it integrates Bluetooth connectivity. It also uses Jawbone’s proprietary, military-grade NoiseAssassin 2.5 wind-reduction noise-cancellation technology, which the company originally created for tank commanders and helicopter pilots. Elsewhere, the Icon HD pipes audio through a 10mm wideband speaker with HD-quality sound. When synced with the company’s MyTalk platform, meanwhile, the headset supports the download of MyTalk apps, listening to calendar events, customizing various settings, and dialing into conference calls. The Icon weighs 8 grams, and its built in Li-Ion polymer battery supports 4.5 hours talk time and 10 days standby time.
