AT&T & IBM TO CREATE SECURE SHARED CLOUD SERVICE

➤ Dallas-based AT&T and Armonk, N.Y.,-based IBM have announced they are collaborating “to create a new, fast, and highly secure shared cloud service” for large enterprise businesses. Scheduled for deployment in 2013, the network will combine AT&T’s virtual private networking and IBM’s SmartCloud Enterprise+ cloud technologies. Using new technology from AT&T Labs for allocating network resources and automating certain tasks, the end result will, according to IBM’s press release, “[allow] customers to quickly and reliably shift information or applications between their own data centers (private clouds) and this new cloud service.” According to Erich Clementi, senior VP for IBM global technology services, “As more organizations realize that cloud can be secure, easily managed, and a key part of their business strategy, cloud will quickly evolve as a tool for innovation rather than just for infrastructure.”
