EION Wireless Acquires Aviat Networks’ WiMAX Business

Aviat Networks, with headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., and Singapore, has sold its WiMAX operations to the Ottawa-based EION Wireless. Details of the buyout were not disclosed, but Aviat CEO Michael Pangia said in a press release that the sale will let Aviat concentrate on its non-WiMAX microwave products for businesses and government agencies. EION will keep Aviat’s WiMAX business as a separate division and will use the new assets to bolster its WiMAX-based 4G mobile broadband portfolio.
